Charlotte Construction Workers to Call for Action by Council to Address Industry Abuses
Study exposes the dark side of Queen City contractors’ booming business
(Charlotte, NC) — Workers, community, faith, and labor groups will hold a press conference at Charlotte City hall on Monday, June 26th to urge council to pass a policy that encourage developers to disclose their contractors employment practices. While Charlotte’s construction industry is booming, Charlotte workers have yet to reap the benefits.
Build a Better South, a construction study released last month, revealed that construction workers in Charlotte work in dangerous conditions with lack of benefits of any kind, including the lack of workers’ compensation insurance.
